Bay Underwater

Client

Bay Underwater— specialist dive crew working in underwater salvage and engineering.

Industry

Industrial underwater engineering.

Project

A hydraulically driven drill machine to drill through a ship hull to remove oil and fuel.

Service

CAD design, stainless TIG and MIG fabrication, CNC, and manual machining.

Project Overview

Bay Underwater partnered with us to design and manufacture a “Hot Tap,” a drilling device engineered explicitly for salvage recovery underwater.

This innovative device allows divers to safely and precisely drill into the hulls of sunken vessels, allowing for the controlled removal of fuels and oil.

The challenge? Ensuring zero product spillage into the ocean while working in demanding underwater conditions.

Project Outcomes

The result is an innovative “Hot Tap” system that combines accuracy with real-world functionality. Divers now have the tool to help them gather hazardous materials without causing environmental damage with a reliable no-spill solution.
“Developing the “Hot Tap” for Bay Underwater is exactly the intricate engineering challenge we love tackling at Mount Maunganui Engineering. Designing a tool that not only performs in harsh underwater conditions but also upholds the highest environmental standards was both exciting and rewarding. We look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of engineering with solutions that safeguard our planet.”
